A message from CEO Gregory Coil

Like many, I was horrified by the events of this past weekend.  The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump, and killing of one rally goer and injuring of two others, was beyond what can or should be acceptable in our nation. Our prayers are with all those affected by these tragic events.  We may never fully understand what motivated this 20-year-old young man to take these despicable actions, but we must all agree that they are unacceptable.

Condemnation of this action alone may not be enough.  Many are calling for peace, unity and civility. Calls to ramp down the political rhetoric and divisiveness, and ramp up civilized and respectful discourse are needed. Reminding ourselves that we are all Americans first is critical now more than ever!

The Y is a non-political organization that is guided by four core values – Respect, Responsibility, Caring and Honesty. I have never been more proud to work for an organization that holds these values at the forefront of all we do, say, and think.  We are further guided by the principle of “Love thy neighbor.” As we reflect, learn and heal from these tragic events, may we all hold these values as our guiding principles now and always!
