From Dinky Dunkers to Champions!

The Y offers many options for youth to explore the game of basketball. Not only do we proudly participate in YBL (Youth Basketball League), we also offer clinics and individual instruction for those wanting to brush up on technique or just learn how to play.

In our YBL League, there are no try-outs or cuts and everyone is a valuable member of the team. The most skilled and the least skilled players are given equal attention. YMCA coaches and athletes keep winning in perspective. Trying to win is natural, but it is not the primary objective of YMCA youth leagues.

The Tri-Cities Family YMCA has been proud to be a part of this program for over 35 years, and last year more than 400 youth participated in this program.  We count on volunteers to instruct the game of basketball and many of these come from parents and past participants that simply want to give back and stay involved in this great community venture.

Registration begins in November for this popular instructional league that will actually launch in January of 2018. Girls and boys in Young 5’s through 8th grade will be divided into teams which will have one practice during the week and one game per week. YBL runs January-March. Volunteer coaches will make this league possible.  Coaches will determine a practice schedule and draft players at a coaches meeting.

Please stop by the Welcome Center for coach packet and application.

The best time to work on your game is before and after the season. This program offers skill development drills and the opportunity to apply them in different situations of play. Kids learn and play using interactive games & drills to improve their skills. See current Program Guide for details on basketball clinics.
