Reaching New Heights
Climbing fosters participation, teamwork and communication. Climbing can bring out the very best in each participant. Challenges related to climbing open up avenues to building self-esteem and confidence. Our Y rock climbing wall will be a great opportunity for everyone to experience these benefits.
- All participants must also sign a Rock Climbing Waiver before climbing.
- Parents must sign for children and youth under the age of 18.
Check out our current Program Guide for class dates and times.
What is belaying?
Belay means to protect or provide safety. In climbing, this means someone on the ground provides a stable base for the climber with their own body weight along with ropes, harnesses, anchors and other devices. In the event of a slip by the climber, the belay device locks and prevents a fall.
What is bouldering?
Bouldering is climbing horizontally or laterally across a rock without using climbing gear.
We encourage everyone to be Belay Certified. Anyone over the age of 11 can become belay certified. You can learn how to belay during open climbing sessions or in a climbing class. There is a fee for a belay certification or if you wish to climb, but need out staff to belay, please see program guide for current pricing. Minors must have a waiver signed by a parent. Closed toed shoes are required. Maximum of 16 climbers during open climb. Please see current Program Guide for days and times.
Climbing Classes ( 4 – 10 Yrs)
Our 4-6 Year old classes are a parent involved class which focuses on communication skills, team building, goal setting and safety. Parents will become belay certified as a part of this course. For our older kids, they will learn basic movement and climbing techniques. As they advance through the classes they will learn hand and foot placements as well as route setting.
