Youth Basketball
The Y offers many options for youth to explore the game of basketball. Not only do we proudly participate in YBL (Youth Basketball League), we also offer clinics and individual instruction for those wanting to brush up on technique or just learn how to play.
In our YBL League, there are no try-outs or cuts and everyone is a valuable member of the team. The most skilled and the least skilled players are given equal attention. YMCA coaches and athletes keep winning in perspective. Trying to win is natural, but it is not the primary objective of YMCA youth leagues.
For Middle School aged youth, we offer an open gym for “pick up” games during some of our program sessions.
YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE (YBL)
The Tri-Cities YMCA has been proud to be a part of this program for over thirty years, and last year more than 400 youth participated in this program. We count on volunteers to instruct the game of basketball and many of these come from parents and past participants that simply want to give back and stay involved in this great community venture.
Registration begins on October 3 for this popular instructional league that will actually launch in January of 2012. Girls and boys in the grades kindergarten through 6th grade will be divided into teams and play eight games of basketball. All divisions, except the Dinky Dunkers, will have a separate girls and boys division (Dinky Dunkers will be coed). Teams will have one practice a week and one game a week. All games will be played on Saturdays. Volunteer coaches will make this league possible. Coaches will determine a practice schedule and draft players at a coaches meeting. Practices begin the week of January 2, 2012, and first game will be played January 14, 2012. Contact Brett Carter for more information.

YBL Official’s Clinics
The Tri-Cities Family YMCA is offering a youth basketball referee clinic for anyone interested in officiating youth basketball league games. The clinic is free, but officials are required to have knowledge of rules (rule books are available for purchase if necessary) and supply their own whistle. Please contact Brett, in advance, if you are interested in being a part of the 34th year of Tri-Cities Family YMCA youth basketball. This is a great leadership experience. Youth must be at least high school aged and must attend one of these clinics to officiate.
