GROUP FITNESS CLASSES
Tri-Cities Family YMCA Fitness Classes are Unbeatable!
We offer dozens of Group Exercise options weekly including Indoor Cycling, Yoga, Strenth Fushion, Kickboxing, Zumba, and many more. Classes exist for ALL fitness level from beginner to the more experienced and we have specialized programs for seniors. You will be energized by our enthusiastic, motivating and knowledgeable instructors!
In our recent health and fitness survey, 100% of responders said that their participation in Group Exercise classes at the YMCA helped them to be more consistent and committed to their fitness routine!
Classes are scheduled into 8 sessions per year, each about 7 weeks long. Class offerings and times may vary each session so be sure to check the Fitness Schedules for up to date information.
All classes listed on the group fitness schedule are included with your membership. Non-members can take advantage of any of our wonderful group fitness classes, by purchasing a Fitness Class Session Pass at the Y Welcome Center.
Aquatic Classes
Water group exercise classes are a wonderful alternative to “land” exercises. With water exercise, there is less impact on your joints, but you still receive the same cardiovascular workout as you would if you were doing it on “land.” All fitness levels and non-swimmers are welcome!
Water Works
Use a variety of equipment (flotation belts, barbells and water logs) to give you a great cardiovascular workout.
AOA Water Exercise
The buoyancy of water allows you to improve strength, flexibility and muscular tone while minimizing stress on the joints. This class is specifically designed for seniors.
Cardio & Strength Conditioning
For complete health and fitness benefits, it is essential to have a well-rounded training program that includes both cardio and strength work. Regular cardio workouts burn lots of calories and improve cardio vascular health, while strength training prevents age-related lean muscle tissue loss and builds better bones. These group fitness classes, held in our Multi-Purpose room, are aimed at helping you accomplish these goals in a fun, safe environment.
Body Basics
Jog, walk or use the cardio center for your cardiovascular conditioning. Afterwards, meet up in the multi-purpose room for muscle strengthening using weights and bands.
Cardio Jam
This class is a fun mix of high/low, basic hip –hop and dance moves. Test your cardio endurance while grooving to the latest hits on the charts. Includes toning and abdominal work.
Cardio Interval
A combination of cardio consisting of high/low aerobics, step intervals, shadow boxing and more! Workout concludes with core exercises and a great stretch. Multipurpose Room
Cardio Kickboxing
This cardio class takes its moves from the boxing arena. Athletically styled, you will use every muscle group. Gloves and wraps are recommended and are sold at the front desk.
Boxing Bootcamp
Burn a ton of calories in this fierce but fun class. A combination of martial arts, boxing and cardio conditioning.
Powerflex
Pure strength training, pure fun! It’s resistance training set to motivating music, using a variable weight barbell between 3 and 63 pounds. This class is ideal for beginners or advanced. LIMIT 35
Strength Fusion
A combination of strength, balance and flexibility exercises designed to target the core while challenging the whole body. This time conscious but effective workout will utilize a variety of equipment leaving you strengthened, lengthened and energized.
Total Training
You will get the best of both worlds with this energizing combination of cardio and strength exercises. A variety of equipment is used in this intense but easy to follow class. One try and you’ll be hooked!
Zumba
An aerobic workout that fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow movement to create a dynamic fitness program that will blow you away! You’re invited to the Fitness Party!
Non-Stop Step
Learn basic to advanced combinations that will move you in every direction– over, around and across the bench.
Outdoor Group Fitness
Our outdoor group fitness classes not only help you to stay in shape, but they take advantage of the beautiful surroundings of the Tri-Cities Family YMCA. Classes meet by the front door of the Y and take various routes around beautiful Grand Haven.
Outdoor Cross Terraining (Odxt )
This workout recreates the impulsiveness of play in an action packed, adventurous format. Bouts of cardio intervals are blended with task training using the environment– all in the great outdoors!
Outdoor Ride
Meet at the YMCA and head out for a group ride! Helmets are required. If the weather is inclement we will be indoors for the workout. Meet by the front doors.

Yoga & Cycling
All of our Yoga and Indoor Cycling Classes are held downstairs in our Mind/Body Studio. The dim lighting, wind fans and smaller size room add to the peaceful ambiance that makes these classes unique.
Gentle Yoga
This class is perfect for beginners or those looking for additional modifications offered at a slower pace. Restorative poses to realign your mind, body and spirit will be taught, followed by a relaxing meditation.
Fitness Yoga
This class is an invigorating heat building format of movements that will incorporate a challenging mind/body workout for all fitness levels.
Yolates
This class is a blend of Yoga and Pilates. Yolates will work the entire body, focusing on core and will finish with deep stretches.
Indoor Cycling
Ride into high gear in one of our many exhilarating stationary cycling classes. Set to motivating music, instructors will use cadence and resistance to simulate hills, flats and more!
Cycle Sculpt
The challenge of a cycling class with the benefits of sculpting! Intervals of sculpting exercises, incorporating tubing or body weight will be integrated into a great cycling ride!
A.O.A. Group Exercise Classes
It’s never too late to feel great! Group exercise provides a supportive and safe environment to help increase one’s strength, endurance, flexibility and balance. The classes listed below are taught by fitness specialists with an expertise in working with Active Older Adults.
SilverSneakers
This trademarked group exercise class is designed for active older adults. It is an equipment-based, multi-level, total body conditioning class in which students use hand-held weights, elastic tubing, a SilverSneakers play ball and a chair for standing and/or seated support.
AOA Water Exercise

AOA Circuit Training
Strength Training becomes even more important as you age! Participants alternate between Cybex equipment and cardiovascular equipment in the Weight Room.
